Stress is a normal function of the organism that helps a person stay alert. When stress or distress increases in intensity and durability it causes a number of physical and psychological alterations.
Stress is when a situation consisting of external (social) demands or internal (psychological) demands has exceeded the person´s capacity to respond to them. This causes an organic alarm that acts on the nervous, cardiovascular, endocrine and immune systems, producing a psychophysical imbalance and the consequent appearance of the disease.
Stress causes psychophysical alterations that lead to or end in diseases. Living with stress is equivalent to living a diminished quality of life. The emotions, sensations and symptoms that accompany stress are incompatible with well-being.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are the symptoms of stress only in my head and not able to truly affect me?
What begins in the mind ends up affecting the body, and vice versa. Even when the symptoms are triggered from a thought, the consequences have an impact on different aspects of life, especially when we cannot control them, as happens with stress.
Do only managers or people in high positions feel stress?
All people are exposed to stress, no matter his or her social or work status. Anyone can become preoccupied with any type of problem, whether it be related to work problems or family issues, among others.
Does taking sedatives help me get rid of stress?
No, taking a sedative does not get rid of stress. Analyzing the complexity of the stress mechanism, where the intellectual functions and the emotional world are involved, help a person to understand that pharmaceuticals are not the solution.
Is stress inevitable because of the pace of life we are currently leading?
No, stress is a personal process, and therefore, individual and social or world indicators interpose in its manifestation. By modifying attitudes, habits and behaviors, a person can substantially change his or her relationship with stress. Ultimately, the individual is responsible.
Can a holiday or vacation de-stress a person?
Not necessarily, if the problems that provoke stress are not solved in the environment in which they develop, stress will reappear upon reintegration into the activity. Sometimes even the vacation itself can be stressful.
